Program

The Society organises a diverse range of activities, including lectures, education and research projects, visits and treks, in the support of promoting and advancing geography in the community.

You can see what's on in our calendar or download a print Program.

Lectures are held at 7.30 PM on the first Tuesday of each month (except January). Most RGSQ lectures are public and entry is free. While at present lectures are held in Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast, we are aiming at including other locations and making lecture materials or videos available on line.

Day, weekend and longer treks, with a distinct geographic flavour, are held regularly within Queensland and around Australia. Check our calendar for what's on.

International treks are organised through RSGQ Traveller.

Each year we organise the Australian Geography Competition for secondary school students, as a joint project with the Australian Geography Teachers' Association (AGTA).  Students who enter the competition also have the opportunity to participate in Geography's Big Week Out for Year 11 students, and the International Geography Olympiad.

Special Interest Groups within the Society bring together members to advance and discuss specific topics. The Map SIG have an interest in cartography from the very ancient to very new - and what of the future in this rapidly advancing field. The Society has a significant collection of paper records, publications and artefacts which the Archive SIG and Library SIG are preserving and indexing to make this important material more easily available to members and researchers.
