Treks & Activities Event
This is a self-drive activity to Canungra where we will meet at the Hub Cafe at 8:30 am. The Hub Cafe opens at 6:00 am, so you might consider traveling early and having breakfast at the cafe. Carpool to leave the Hub Cafe at 9:00 am. The road to Lamington National Park, O'Reilly's from Canungra is narrow, winding and being repaired after extensive damage resulting from Cyclone Debbie in 2017. There are some one-way sections controlled by lights.
At 10 am in the Park's Heritage Room we will be welcomed by a Ranger before we take the easy 1.8km Centenary Walk. The walk explains the physical formation of the region about Lamington National Park.
The group will then split and those interested in a bit more adventure on uneven surfaces will walk (about an hour) to Picnic Rock and see ancient Antarctic beech trees. The rest of the group will have time to walk through the O'Reilly's Rainforest Gardens, Tree Top Walk, visit the Information Centre, more time in the Heritage Room, or feed the birds.
BYO picnic lunch or lunch at the O'Reilly's Mountain Cafe.
Following lunch will be a talk about the Stinson plane crash and rescue. Departing O'Reilly's at 3 pm to arrive back in Brisbane about 5:30 pm.
