Treks & Activities Event

Bus trip visiting the RAAF Aviation Heritage Centre at Amberley followed by The Workshops Rail Museum at North Ipswich.

After arrival and ID security checks at Amberley, morning tea will be served at the Heritage Centre covered outdoor area. The RAAF Aviation Heritage Centre has four hangers full of aircraft, and aviation memorabilia. You will be blown away by the large number of restored aircraft including a Canberra Bomber, Sabre and Mirage fighter jets, an F111, and various helicopters to name a few; some still capable of flying. We will be shown around by a  volunteer guide.

At Amberley, visitors aged 16 years and over are required to produce current unexpired photographic ID issued by a State or Commonwealth authority. If you do not have a drivers licence or passport, etc. you can apply in person for a ‘Photo Identification Card’ at a transport and motoring customer service centre, participating Queensland Government Agency Program Office (QGAP), or a police station that provides licensing services. Unexpired ‘Adult Proof of Age Cards’ issued prior to April 2019 should be acceptable but you should double check that. Without photographic ID you cannot partake in this event.

Other conditions are: No Photography allowed on Base except whilst in the Heritage Centre precinct. Vehices may be subject to ransom searches. Smoking not permitted.

From Amberley we will depart for The Workshops Rail Museum at North Ipswich. There will be a 30 minute tour from the historic Timekeepers Building followed by lunch, being tea, coffee, roast meat and vegetables and apple crumble dessert.

You are then free to wander around at leisure at the many displays including but not limited to railway rolling stock, locos, videos and a model railway. External to the main building you can take short walks to view the Timekeepers Grounds, historic Power House, and War Memorial.

Bus Pick Up & Return Location:

North Side 07:30 AM Sharp. Bus Stop 27, Park Road, Eagle Junction.

South Side 08:10 AM Sharp. Brittain Park, near 172 Troughton Road, Coopers Plains.
